Operations Safety Manual

The Operations Safety Manual (OSM) is a combined safety case and statutory operations manual in a web based format.

The OSM is the single point of access to key safety information and uses text, graphics and multimedia to convey the inherent safety controls, features and equipment designed into facilities and the thinking behind their use.

It explains how safety is controlled by active and passive measures and helps to ensure that day-to-day operational activities are comprehensively managed whilst minimising the risk especially when associated with change.

It has been designed to be as accessible and interesting as possible to the non specialist and to encourage familiarity and understanding of safe operations.

The following screens show examples of information relating to safety features, location of safety equipment and devices, hazard management and the different types of hazards.

In addition, the OSM can be integrated to work with other systems & tools such as those for HSE and document management. The benefit of this is that related documentation can be directly linked and accessed in a meaningful management way.

The OSM can be developed to operate in a way that suits the individual client, i.e. central server, intranet or on CD-Rom/DVD. The technology used is kept as simple as possible, and utilises software which is currently deployed by the client organisation. Nominated client personnel are given basic training in maintaining the system as part of the OSM development. However, full technical support is always available if required.
